3 Essential Ingredients for a Healthy Vacation

June 15, 2017

In my last post (click here to read) I talked about the 8 things I pack with my when I travel to help the body adjust to the new environment with ease. Today I will be sharing 3 things I do no matter where I go to help me stay energized to soak in every beautiful moment of my vacation.

1. 2 Big Cups of Dark Leafy Greens

This is so important that it’s earned it’s own place on this list. What makes them awesome is that they are packed with vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients such as beta carotene and lutein that protects your body and make sure it’s functioning at its best. Greens also provide a great source of fibre to grab hold of toxins and eliminate them from your body.

Along with making a ‘hotel-friendly’ smoothie in the morning, stock up your mini-fridge with a salad kit and be consistent with your salad side orders can make a big difference on how good you feel while traveling.

If you have a little extra time, I highly recommend this Green SOS smoothie that packs in so many nutrients to help your body stay balanced and energized while travelling. Click here to get the recipe!

2. Eat Fresh Local Produce

Going to a new place will undoubtedly change your routine, so to make sure you are supporting your body with the nutrients it needs to stay healthy when your environment is completely different from home. Hit the local grocery market to make sure you are getting a variety of nutrients! These local, seasonal produce provides the best nutrition support for your body to adapt to the new environment.

3. Stay Hydrated

Carry a water bottle with you. This is because your hydration level need to adjust to your activity level. This will not only cut down the cost of buying bottled water but it will also save you time searching for the next convenient store. From my experience, it’s always easier to borrow a washroom than looking for water that’s not marked up so high.

This is also going of help off set the drying air-plane air and prevent air-borne bacteria from getting into your body through dry mucus linings in your respiratory tract.

Extra tip: If you can score some kombucha, that would be great! The glass water bottle is a good size to carry around and also it’s great for keep track of how many you had and whether you are on top of your hydration goal.
