Happy Valentines’s! If you are looking for a healthy, delicious and fail-proof Valentine’s Day treat, you have found the perfect recipe. The best part is: no baking required! Strawberries are considered a symbol of love and kindness. Your nutritionist here can’t tell you exactly how strawberries came to be a romantic symbol but I can help get all the heart-loving benefits and antioxidant in an easy and delicious way.
Let’s reveal the heart-loving goodness in this recipe:
Healthy Fats
Do you know? February is heart health month. When I talk about heart health with clients, I often find out a “low-fat” diet is not an effective solution. Healthy fat is an essential part of a balanced diet. Hemp seeds and chia seeds are good sources of healthy fat. These seeds are a good source of omega 3 fatty acids and are particularly effective in keeping inflammation under control, protecting the blood vessels from oxidative damages.
Strawberries
Many Studies have demonstrated the heart-loving benefits of strawberries. 1-2 cup equivalent of strawberries everyday for 6 weeks is proven to have a positive effect on insulin sensitivity, blood glucose level and other blood inflammatory markers. Another study has shown strawberries can also reduce the ”bad cholesterol” LDL level.
Strawberries also contains other powerful antioxidants including quercetin and resveraltrol. The later is also found rich in one of the most relaxing beverages that’s been indulged around the world, red wine.
This delicious, creamy, dairy-free smoothie is a healthy way to satisfy your sweet tooth. You don’t have to worry about saving it for a special occasion. It makes a great mid-day pick-me-up or an on-the-go breakfast.
